Frequently Asked Questions
How does BleedArrest work?
Both the foam strips and powder work by rapidly dehydrating the blood in contact with the foam strip or powder causing it to form a gel that naturally dissolves. This speeds your body’s natural blood clotting abilities. Click here to view an animation of the process.
What is BleedArrest made from?
The active ingredient in BleedArrest is a natural plant-based polymer, called amylopectin. Amylopectin is found in many staple foods such as wheat, rice, corn and potatoes.
How do I remove a BleedArrest foam strip from my nose?
The clotting process will cause the BleedArrest strip to form a gel and temporarily adhere to the interior of your nose. This is to be expected. Leave the BleedArrest undisturbed until you are sure that your nose has stopped bleeding. There is no harm in leaving BleedArrest in place for an extended period of time. You can remove the gel and remaining foam strip using any process you would normally use to clear your nostril, or by flushing your nose with a saline rinse.
How long can I leave BleedArrest foam strips in my nose?
BleedArrest can be left in the nose until the bleeding stops. The amount of time varies based on the location and amount of bleeding. For best results, follow the instructions for use on the back of the BleedArrest box or click here for details.
What should I do if my nosebleed won’t stop?
If you are not able to stop bleeding with the use of BleedArrest, seek professional healthcare immediately.
Is BleedArrest safe to use?
BleedArrest is FDA cleared as an Over the Counter (OTC) product and is intended for use on minor cuts, lacerations, abrasions and minor nosebleeds.
Can the foam strips be used for wounds other than nosebleeds?
Yes, BleedArrest foam strips can also be used to treat minor cuts, lacerations, and abrasions. Click here to view instructions for using foam strips on skin cuts.
Can I save leftover BleedArrest nasal strips or powder?
BleedArrest powder and foam strips are provided in sterile, single-use pouch packaging. Once the pouch packaging has been opened the remaining product should be discarded.
