NOSE BLEEDS - NASAL BLEEDING
Nosebleeds can be a nuisance, unexpected and at times scary.
Research has shown that 30%-60% of US households have one or more
individuals that suffer from nosebleeds (also called epistaxis)
and at times requiring a trip to the ER. Almost all nosebleeds
can be treated at home with BleedArrest for Nasal.
Nasal bleeding is a common disorder encountered amongst EMT's,
first responders as well as the medical community. Nasal bleeding,
also referred to as expistaxis has been reported in up to 60%
of the general population. Most cases of nasal bleeding or epistaxis
occur in the anterior part of the nasal cavity. Bleeding usually
is the result of rich anastomoses of the nasal septum (Kesselbach's
plexus). Epistaxis in the posterior region of the nasal cavity
usually arises via branches of the sphenopalatine arteries. Most
bleeding here occurs behind the posterior portion of the middle
turbinate or at the posterior superior roof of the nasal cavity.
What causes
nasal bleeding in children?
Nasal bleeding and expistaxis causes:
- Trauma
- Foreign
- Epistaxix digitorum (nose picking)
- Chronic sinusitus
- Polyps
- Cigarrette smoke
- Medications, blood thinners such as warfarin, coumadin(cumadin),
plavix
- Septal deviations and perforations
- Hemophilia
- Hypertension
- Leukemia
- Liver disease (e.g., cirrhosis)
- Platelet dysfunction
- Thrombocytopenia
Initial
management of epistaxis includes compression of the nostrils until
a healthcare professional arrives. BleedArrest should be
adminstered to the patiient upon arrival to the scene. Convenient
1/2" x 1.5" nasal strips are provided in our BleedArrest
nasal kit of 5 sponges. Each sponge is manufactured from our novel
clotting powders and is easily and comfortably placed inside the
nostril. Once inside the nose, the sponge will act to absorb the
water from the blood cells and rapidly concentrate platelets,
serum, and fibrinogen, forming a clot at the site of the bleeding.
No need for, painful elefctro cautery, powders that can burn or
50 feet of nasal packing. Just one small sponge inside the nose
works effectively to stop nasal bleeding.
BleedArrest™ for Nasal is easily inserted into the nostril, pressing on the outside of the nose with the index finger for at least 3 minutes then gently remove the Nasal Foam. Occasionally, nosebleeds are heavy and may require a second application.
